With construction at Sydney's Barangaroo harbourfront development "progressing well", NSW premier Barry O'Farrell has asserted that attention will now be turned to cultural development at the site.

Speaking last week (Jan 19) at the release of two reports - the Peer Review of Remediation and the Barangaroo Delivery Authority Board's response to the Barangaroo Review - O'Farrell said that there are a number of options to be considered for the new development.

He said: "At a cultural level, the Authority will consider a range of cultural, civic, educational and public options for the site that will not only enhance our international standing and tourism, but also make an important contribution to the community of Sydney."

This could spell good news for anyone considering commercial property in the area, as the new initiatives are likely to boost Barangaroo's appeal.

O'Farrell emphasised that Barangaroo has an important role to play in growing the state's economy and will continue to help Sydney stand out on a global stage.

Last month, Barangaroo hosted one of Sydney's largest family-friendly New Year's Eve events, with more than 14,000 people gathering on the site to watch the spectacular fireworks - the largest crowd the site has welcomed since 2009.
