Commercial property investors looking to snap up property in Queensland may be interested to learn about the approval of a multimillion-dollar resort on Great Keppel Island.
Jeff Seeney, deputy premier and minister for state development, infrastructure and planning, said the project will be one of the largest of its kind in Australia and the first within the Great Barrier Reef in 25 years.
"It would provide a huge boost to both the construction and tourism industries - two of Queensland's four key economic pillars - creating hundreds of construction jobs over a 12-year construction period and more than … 1,000 permanent operational jobs," Mr Seeney explained.
For those looking to purchase commercial retail property in a tourism hotspot, Great Keppel Island may be a location of interest.
Mr Seeney said the resort, which will boast several sustainable features, also proposes the development of a yacht club, ferry terminal, staff accommodation and 250-berth marina.
The staged project will kick off with the construction of a 250 room hotel at Fisherman's Beach and accompanying conference facilities and restaurants.
"The Newman government is working to grow the state economy and provide Queenslanders with job opportunities while ensuring the protection of the Great Barrier Reef," Mr Seeney added.
