Australian Capital Territory residents are among the healthiest in the country, a report has revealed.

The 2012 chief officer's report showed that for the period of 2008 to 2010, ACT residential property dwellers ranked above the rest of the country in terms of education, employment, incomes and life expectancy.

"The report shows that ACT residents continue to enjoy good health overall and have access to good quality air, water and food," ACT minister for health Katy Gallagher said on August 24.

"It also indicated that many of the social factors that influence health continue to see better results for the ACT compared to Australian in general."

For investors looking to purchase an investment property, the results may attract them to purchase property in the ACT, with a healthier population an appealing buying point.

Ms Gallagher said the ACT population has a higher life expectancy rate than other parts of Australia, with leading health concerns such as asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer declining in the territory.

Infant mortality rates are also lower in the ACT, with less low-birth weight babies born in the region than in anywhere else in the country.

"The information in this report is important as it helps us prepare for the health challenges of the future and gives us a snapshot of what is largely a very healthy city," the health minister explained.
