Deltroit Station near Wagga Wagga is up for auction

November 22, 2011

The beautiful and historic Deltroit Station in Wagga Wagga, NSW is scheduled to go for auction on December 15 and is expected to sell for between $15 and $18 million.

The property was listed by Anthony Crichton-Brown, a former Lumley Insurance chairman who owns two other prominent properties, Humula Station near Yass and Tooronga in the Riverina.

Deltroit comprises 2,545 hectares of land including sheep and cattle breeding farmland, productive pastures and cropping flats.

Vegetation at the site includes kurrajong shade timber, and wattle.

A homestead, coaching inn and manager's residence are the three buildings on the land.

The 1903 brick homestead is in Federation-style and was designed by prominent Sydney architect William Nixon.

It is surrounded by six hectares of gardens.

A modernised coaching inn - The Junction Hotel - built by John Griffiths, an English free settler, is located on the border of the station

It has been used as accommodation for employees on the station since its closure in 1916.

The station was originally established by William Richardson, an English migrant, in 1860. It remained in the Richardson family for three generations until 1963 before being sold to Robert Kleberg, president of Texas-based King Ranch.

The Crichton-Browns acquired the property in 1990.
